Sophie Mouron was born in 1966 in Saint-Denis. She lives and works in Bordeaux.
One of my main occupations is checking how seconds follow one another. And also seeing if some of them precede the others.
However, I also spend time performing other tasks: measuring clouds, taking stock of running water and rain, gauging air, scrutinising the wind, contemplating the atmosphere, noticing things appearing as well as disappearing, etc. What’s more, I have a keen interest in the convergence point between before and after, and in the threshold between inside and out. And vice versa.
It is always a question of what passes under and over, of the look of things and the reality of moments that evade us.
Sophie Mouron has always used photography, perhaps as a way of applying a filter onto the world. After studying in-studio drawing for 6 years, she began researching the topic of our relationship to space during her first years working towards a master’s degree in visual arts at Paris I – Saint Charles University. She currently continues researching these subjects through interventions, site-specific installations, acoustic projects, video and photographic series, the latter having become increasingly prevalent in her work as she has begun to focus more and more on the close correlation between space and time.
