Véronique Lamare
Born in 1969
Lives and works in Bordeaux
Véronique Lamare’s works bring into play the raw physicality of the body and the concrete properties of space, which she joins together with radical, blunt and repetitive actions. This aesthetics of scarcity and elementariness is used to create an art that is resolutely non-spectacular, humble and discreet. Testing the materiality of bodies, objects or territories, and opening up the scene through their sole presence, are some of the empowerment strategies that Véronique Lamare uses to suggest a counterpoint to the instrumental and over-signified body of contemporary societies. Her work, which stands at the intersection of the performative, visual and plastic registers, thwarts both categories and the public’s expectations by showcasing a stark and truly disarming plasticity.
