Didier Petit

Didier Petit's work entertains a permanent struggle between what one might term a spiritual origin and the form it assumes. It is one of the reasons for which he submits his ideas and symbols to long preparatory works.
The carefully executed drawings and sketches are necessary. They are both a link to past works and the stages of a complex installation, the first stone laid for a construction yet to come.
His works possess the tension of two opposing forces; the will to reveal the spiritual and the difficulty to manifest it through the materials, images and references chosen. The results at times give rise to a certain mute quality in the works, to an ensemble that unveils its secret little by little.
