Lives and works in Bordeaux

Maitetxu Etcheverria is a French photographer.
She graduated from the École des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux and from the École Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie in Arles.
Her fascination with movie and theatre sets goes back a long way. Her work has led her to immerse herself in the construction workshops at the Fémis cinema school, and has taken her to Bucharest, where she photographed the city’s studios. From pavement to pavement, she moves from one place, country, and time to the next… For the past two years, Maitetxu Etcheverria has found new grounds for expression in the isles of the Gironde estuary.
Always closed. At one point moving. On one side, the outlines of the islands following the fluctuations of the river’s rapid mutations. On the other, seasonal farmhands, inevitably moving and, of course, young. Captured by the photographer in one composition after the next, enclosed spaces and their motionless occupants tell new stories and open up new horizons… It is the art of “fictionalising the scenery”.
