Loreto Martínez Troncoso

Born in 1978

Lives and works in Marseilles

Most of Loreto Martínez Troncoso’s works come to life in the spaces that host them, in which the artist seeks, encounters, writes and conjures up stories and memories. The purpose of her artistic work is to create public forums, to make each and everyone’s stories possible. The performances she initiates are driven by a desire for incarnation in which language, sound and voices, as well as silences, become tangible raw materials. The body and its breath inhabits the story it is telling. The artist pens situations and partitions them to translate, formulate and reveal. She often collaborates with others (writers, artists, researchers, activists and friends) to write, shoot films and create sound pieces that question the limits of institutional frameworks and systems of power in patriarchal society. In vivo, Loreto Martínez Troncoso sees her artistic practice as an active space for political and poetic action and “the exhibition as a space for writing and a space to be written”.
