Nathalie Leroy-Fiévée

When considering Nathalie Leroy-Fiévée’s practice, one immediately thinks of the concept of territory—geographical, architectural, and emotional all at once. After a childhood surrounded by Amazonian nature and gardens, immersed in Saramaka craftsmanship, and enchanted by the riddles of her Mamilusi—who was of Kali’na descent—she began taking evening classes at the École régionale des Beaux-Arts d’Amiens at the age of thirteen, then enrolled at the Beaux-Arts de Paris in 1992. From Guiana to mainland France and on to Mayotte, her approach explores art’s ability to reveal the immediate space around us and to redefine our presence in the world. But beyond form, her work is driven by a visceral need: that of transmission. By transforming the artistic process into a space for encounter—where mastery of the motif is enriched by the spontaneity of shared gestures — The artist affirms that creating is, above all, about opening a sensitive window into reality and offering the possibility of dreaming within it.
