Mégane Brauer

Born in 1994

Lives and works in Marseilles

Mégane Brauer’s works are based on her experience and that of her relatives, and are closely linked to the social violence of a world ruined by capitalism. Precariousness and poetry, survival and flamboyance, essentials and necessity — her work is grounded in disconcerting sincerity. It originates in texts that the artist writes about class domination and the daily strategies that the poor need to implement, from bargain deals to administrative forms to underpaid work to losing scratchcards… Like snapshots of forbidden lives, these works constitute a seething and uncynical ode to the beauty of cheap rhinestone, of the telenovela dream, of creative activities that shine with the tawdry shimmer of diamond paint. Mégane Brauer uses the materials that surround her, producing a body of work that is steadfastly grounded and political, and which powerfully expresses the instability of a senseless present.
