Camille Kaiser

Camille Kaiser is an artist, researcher and cultural worker based in Geneva, Switzerland.

She graduated with a BAFA from EDHEA-Sierre in 2014 and a MAFA orientation Critical Curatorial Cybermedia studies from HEAD-Geneva in 2016. In 2025, she obtained a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Archive Science from the University of Bern.

Her artistic practice unfolds through long-term research projects that focus on the relationship between intimate archives and institutional archives from a similar place and time. The work engages a reflection on archive-making as a space for artistic practice through the gestures of writing, collecting, assembling and filming. From a feminist and decolonial perspective on history and memory, her work addresses the politics and aesthetics of the archive, the museum as a political and diplomatic site, and the artwork/art object as an agent of (post-)colonial tensions. It takes the form of installations incorporating film, text, sound and printed images that (re)present and (re)create real and imaginary documents.

Elle a mené ses projets en France, en Afrique du Sud, en Suisse et en Algérie, développant des recherches au sein d’archives nationales, régionales, diplomatiques, muséales, communautaires, militantes et militaires. Ses récentes productions se sont concentrées sur le transfert d’œuvres d’art entre l’Algérie et la France pendant la transition historique qui a suivi la déclaration d’indépendance de l’Algérie, en les reliant au transfert de la famille de l’artiste et de ses archives intimes.

Elle développe actuellement un projet de recherche qui retrace l’histoire de la collection nommé Traditional Southern African Art collection à la Johannesburg Art Gallery et ses liens étroits avec des collectionneurs et marchands d’art suisse afin de réfléchir aux relations coloniales passées et présentes entre la Suisse et l’Afrique du Sud à travers l’histoire de l’art.
